Highlights of 2017! 1

Highlights of 2017!

What a year 2017 has been! It's not been easy, but I have whittled down the highlights of 2017 to 100 images. I could have included so many more, but here we go! One of my goals for 2017 was to push myself both creatively as well as technically, and it is really lovely to look back on the work I have produced and see a progression. At the same time it is reassuring to see that some things haven't changed. I still love producing natural images, which capture real emotions!

I have met so many lovely people in 2017 and it has been a genuine pleasure to work with you. You know who you are! It was also great working alongside fabulous suppliers such as Tupelo Tree, and Big Bear Bakery. Finally it was fantastic to work at so many different wedding venues including the fabulous Kinkell Byre, the exclusive Edinburgh Castle, Sorn Castle, and Mansfield Traquair, or Rufflets Hotel with its beautiful gardens.

Over the last three weeks I have already shot two engagement sessions. And so far I have a number of weddings booked, with some as far afield as the Cork in Ireland! So here is to 2018! Let's hope it is going to be another fabulous year! I already look forward to meeting many more lovely people and capturing their big day for them!

Iona Fyfe - Promo Shoot

Iona Fyfe - Promo Shoot

In 2017 I have been very lucky to meet a number of Scotlands finest young musical talents, most of whom have either graduated from or are still students at the RCS in Glasgow. It all started with the BBC recording of the St. Andrew's Day Concert at the RCS, where I also heard Iona Fyfe performing some of her traditional East coast songs and ballads.

A few months later, Iona asked me whether I could help her put together a collection of promo images which could be used for concert posters and flyers, as well as social media marketing. I had some ideas in my mind and suggested to meet in Glasgow's West End to give the shoot a slightly urban feel.

Iona was so pleased with the results that some of the images have been used for online reviews, including one in Germany, and one image was even used for Iona's sellout gig at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival! If you would like to find out more about Iona and her music simply go to her website at https://ionafyfe.com/ or you can also see her perform at this year's Celtic Connections.

Sarah's and Ian's Engagement Shoot in St. Andrews

When I first 'met' Sarah and Ian in a Facetime conversation, I could tell that they were both excited about their wedding but that they were equally nervous about posing in front of a camera. It's a natural reaction, and most of us aren't used to having a lens stuck in our face, and it can make people feel very self-conscious. What I as a photographer want is for my couples to be happy and relaxed, as this will come across in the images so I suggested a pre-wedding or engagement shoot.

Ian and Sarah had first met as undergraduates at St. Andrews University, and therefore it was important to them that the engagement shoot would be in St. Andrews. After a few frames, it was is if both had completely forgotten that a camera was there, and I think the images show just how happy both of them are.

The icing on the cake!

The Icing on the Cake

The Ubiquitous Chip in Glasgow's West End, has long been recognised as one of the best eateries in Glasgow, where guests would rub shoulders with celebrities such as the Big Yin or former cabinet ministers. It's always been a place of understated elegance which is reflected in the quality of their delicious menu and the professionalism of their staff.

So when my good friend Edwina from Rosewood Cakes told me that she had been asked by the Ubiquitous Chip to be their preferred supplier I wasn't surprised. Edwina has made a career change a few years ago when she decided to follow her passion and set up her business. She quickly established a reputation for her delicious bespoke creations, and her business has been going from strength to strength.

Fiona, the manager of the 'Chip, suggested a shoot at the restaurant, and here are some images we took on that day.

A Chicago Engagement 2

A Chicago Engagement

Joey and Devra got engaged earlier this year in their native California. When I met up with them in Chicago in May, they had asked me to do a couple shoot with them, which would showcase the urban character of Chicago, which is so different from their home in San Francisco.

The first thing we did, was get on the infamous 'El', the elevated train, which like an arterial system brings thousands of commuters and visitors to the beating heart of the city, the 'Loop'. After exploring downtown with its magnificent architecture, we had cocktails and tacos at the ever so stylish Chicago Athletic Association.

We finished the day off by returning to the leafy neighbourhood of Lincoln Park, away from the hustle and bustle of the designer shops on Michigan Avenue.

Jen's and Rory's Pre-Wedding Shoot 3

Jen's and Rory's Pre-Wedding Shoot

Jen's and Rory's West End Pre-Wedding Shoot

Jen had met het fiancé Rory when they both worked as bar staff of a West End pub, so it seemed only fitting to do their pre-wedding shoot here in the West End. We met in the Botanics and and took a walk down Byres Road towards Glasgow University, where Jen had studied for her degree.

This was such a great shoot, and I think the pictures really reflect just how much in love these two people are with each other. If you would like to speak to me about your wedding, why don't you drop me a message here.
